Integrating ecological restoration into residential design

Tiny Township , Ontario

Featured partner : Cambium Inc . , an Englobe company

Since joining Englobe , Cambium has continued to deliver projects

that ref lect a shared commitment to positive environmental and

community outcomes . In 2025 , the team completed a residential

redevelopment in Tiny Township that integrates modern design with

ecological   restoration .

Working in collaboration with several Ontario - based f irms , the

Cambium team developed and oversaw a comprehensive Stream

Restoration Plan to support redevelopment adjacent to a regulated

watercourse . The project addressed erosion , habitat degradation ,

and water quality risks while meeting municipal requirements and

minimizing construction impacts .

The restoration approach replaced artif icial materials with natural

elements and stabilized the stream bank using bioengineering

techniques . Degraded local habitats were restored through the

planting of more than 75 native trees and shrubs , supported by soil

amendments designed to promote healthy plant establishment and

long - term nutrient cycling . During the construction phase , the team

also implemented numerous protective measures to safeguard water

quality and protect local wildlife .

Post - construction monitoring conducted in September 2025

demonstrated strong early outcomes . These included high vegetation

coverage , limited establishment of invasive species , and improved

stream shading that supports thermal protection for f ish habitat –

even under challenging drought conditions . These results ref lect the

ef fectiveness of integrating ecological planning early in the design and

construction process .

This project illustrates how thoughtful collaboration and science - based

design can reduce environmental impacts while enhancing ecological

function . The Cambium team ’ s work on this project went far beyond

regulatory requirements ; rather , the team delivered a solution that

ref lects its abiding commitment to leaving the landscape healthier and

more resilient for the future – one project at a time .
