Mould remediation and housing restoration

Nunavut

Englobe supported housing renewal ef forts across multiple

communities in Nunavut by delivering multidisciplinary services to

identify , document , and remediate mould contamination in residential

housing - an issue with wide - ranging implications for human health

and community well - being .

Working in collaboration with the Nunavut Housing Corporation , the

Englobe team provided detailed building investigations , including

site inspections and comprehensive photographic documentation , to

clearly identify mould ‑ related issues and support informed remediation

planning . The team then partnered with Sila Remediation Inc . , its sister

company and a majority Inuit - owned contractor , to complete mould

removal and reconstruction of af fected housing units .

Over the past four years , the teams have worked collaboratively

to complete 73 mould assessments and 58 remediation and

decontamination projects in 15 communities across Nunavut .

The work was closely coordinated with the client and community

stakeholders to align with local schedules and priorities . In recognition

of the disruption associated with temporary relocation , the af fected

housing units were remediated as quickly as possible to minimize

resident displacement .

The program delivers meaningful social and sustainability outcomes

by improving housing quality , reducing health risks associated

with mould exposure , and supporting the economic participation

of Inuit businesses through the involvement of a local remediation

partner . Consolidated investigations and remediation activities also

helped optimize the scant resources typically available in remote

Northern   communities .

The project ’ s impacts were considerable and contributed to

sustainability objectives through :

— Detailed building investigations to identify and document

mould   issues

— The delivery of integrated investigation , remediation , and

reconstruction services by a majority Inuit - owned partner

— Remediation of 58 housing units , supporting safe and healthy

living   environments

— Minimal disruption for residents through ef f icient project delivery

— Improved community well - being by enabling residents to promptly

return to mould ‑ free homes

— Support for Inuit participation and local capacity in

Northern   communities
