Victoria High School seismic upgrade and addition project

Featured partner : Herold Engineering Limited , an Englobe company

Herold Engineering supported the extensive renovation and

seismic upgrade of Victoria High School , a heritage - designated ,

f ive - storey institution originally built in 1911 . Covering approximately

220 , 000   ft ² , this project strengthened and renewed a landmark

community facility while adding new space designed to accommodate

200   additional   students .

The Herold team ’ s work helped deliver a resilient solution that

respected the building ’ s history and the needs of today ’ s learners .

The scope included selective demolition of the interior core to enable

seismic reinforcement of existing structural elements . The team helped

integrate new and existing components using concrete shear walls ,

steel beams and drag struts , and new foundation pads and footings ,

alongside a major addition featuring a new two - storey structure . The

design also incorporated Indigenous cultural elements , to ensure the

renewed campus ref lects and honours the communities it serves .

By extending the service life of a historic public asset and improving

life - safety performance , the Herold team ’ s contributions support

continuity of essential community services and safer , more adaptable

learning environments . Recognized with top honours at the 34th

annual Capital Region Commercial Building Awards , the team ’ s work

on the Victoria High School project illustrates how our broader team

helps clients enhance safety and resilience , while also preserving

heritage and creating f lexible spaces for future generations of learners .
