Southern Alberta, a region known for its vibrant agricultural community,
stands at the forefront of f lood protection and water management
with the Horsef ly Regional Emergency Spillway. This project, a crucial
addition to the area’s infrastructure, is designed to shield homes, fertile
farmlands, and essential infrastructures from the devastating ef fects of
severe weather-induced f looding. By ensuring the safety of irrigation and
potable water systems, it not only protects crops and livestock but also
safeguards the health of the community.
Since January 2021, MPE, a division of Englobe, proudly leads this
vital initiative expertly handling every facet of the project, from civil
and hydrotechnical design to structural and geotechnical aspects, all
while maintaining a strong focus on environmental compliance and
sustainability. The innovative spillway techniques developed here are a
beacon of hope for similar regions in Western Canada, of fering
adaptable solutions to f lood mitigation and water management
challenges.
