At Englobe, our teams deeply value mutual respect, understanding, and meaningful collaboration with our Indigenous partners.

Our commitment in action

One way in which our teams put this commitment into practice is by actively striving to create and expand local employment opportunities in all of the Canadian communities where we work.

Whenever possible, we collaborate directly with Council, Elders, and other Indigenous community members at the start of our projects to build meaningful relationships and enhance positive benefits for the project, the community, and the region.

One notable way in which we do so it by investing in hiring and training local workforces in order to support residents and the overall community.

In fact, Englobe is the only Quebec firm whose instructors are certified to deliver BEAHR training programs in both official languages across Canada. In addition, Englobe was tasked with updating the most popular training courses and translating them into French.

ECO Canada’s BEAHR programs

Developed by ECO Canada, BEAHR programs were designed to empower Indigenous learners through culturally grounded, career-focused training. The training combines Western science with Indigenous Knowledge to prepare participants for in-demand environmental roles across Canada.

These training modules stimulate employment within Indigenous communities. They also enable their members to better understand and quickly respond to environmental studies and monitoring related to various development projects on their territory, as well as any environmental issues arising from construction and other project work.

I took part in the organization, updating and translation of the BEAHR training courses, and I also served as a program instructor. With the flexibility of the modules and the wealth of teaching materials, this training can be tailored to the context, making it relevant for both trainees and future employers. These courses are not just about teaching environmental concepts; they also provide unique opportunities for meeting and sharing ideas.

The value of BEAHR training programs

The learning methods, applied mainly in the field, involve in-demand skills that are highly valued by learners. With training content that is diverse and flexible, Englobe can offer its clients from various sectors (mining, ports, hydroelectricity, forestry, and others) the opportunity to forge ties with members of local Indigenous communities by actively participating in the professional development of these local workforces.

As a member of a First Nation, the concept of being a guardian of the Earth is central to our culture. The BEAHR training focused on this idea, which I loved. In my case, it also motivated me to take other courses and look for job opportunities in this field. I would like to see these training programs expanded and deepened to become more technical and open up even more opportunities for students.

In partnership with these communities, Englobe also offers turnkey management services for a BEAHR training project, from grant application to module teaching. Our teams and instructors can also support communities wishing to gain the necessary knowledge to develop an environmental project on their own land.

The BEAHR program: practical training that drives autonomy

The BEAHR training program is a practical way to transfer knowledge and skills into First Nations, Innu and Métis communities, thus enabling them to become more autonomous and take charge of their future development.

This is yet another way in which our Englobe team continues to foster close ties with Indigenous communities, with whom we have proudly and collaboratively completed projects right across Canada for over 30 years.
